POSTCARDS FROM HOME by MAGS
Born in Port Seton, Mags grew up amongst the fishing and
mining communities of the local area.
She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1972,
and, after a couple of years grace, she took
a post-graduate teaching qualification at Moray House,
before beginning a long and rewarding career in Art &
Design teaching in Edinburgh & the Lothians.
Following her retirement in 2004, she has spent time
exploring her own creativity. Her appetite for
developing skills in different media has led her to
embrace a rich variety of approaches.
In recent years, she has evolved a unique marriage of
traditional and digital techniques.
As the title of the exhibition suggests, her visual
imagination is fed by experiences of home. The Seashore
Gallery is adjacent to the places where her ancestors
worked and played. Her imagination draws on the wealth
of imagery she finds in her surroundings, in the events
and experiences of everyday life, from the mundane to
the memorable, from the sorrowful to the joyful, from
the past to the present.
In every sense, these small scale works are Postcards
from Home, from the hills, woodlands and coastlines of
life's rich tapestry.
